These raw turmeric energy balls are so easy to make, and will provide you with much needed energy during your activities, or as a mid-day snack.

Turmeric is known for its many health and healing properties. Studies have shown that it has major benefits for your body and your brain.

You may know turmeric as the spice that has been used in India for years. It’s what makes stew and curry that beautiful yellow colour.

The compounds in turmeric are called curcuminoids. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric and it helps the body to fight foreign invaders and repair damage in all parts of your body.

Check out the many health benefits and why you’ll want to start using turmeric in your baking and cooking:

  1. Anti-inflammatory properties
  2. Contains antioxidants
  3. Boots brain neurons and memory
  4. Lowers risk of heart disease
  5. Prevents and treats certain cancers
  6. Helps diminish arthritis pain
  7. Contains anti-aging properties

You can make these raw turmeric balls in 5 minutes and have them on hand for the week for snacks. I like to soak my nuts for an hour or so before I make these balls as it makes the nuts easier to digest, but you certainly do not have to soak the nuts for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup hazelnuts
  • 12 dried apricots
  • 1 tsp fresh ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp fresh ground ginger
  • 2 tbsp hemp hearts
  • 2 tbsp ground flax seed
  • lemon or orange zest
  • 1 tbsp melted coconut oil
  • pinch sea salt

Directions

  1. Mix all ingredients in a food processor until mixture sticks together. The amount of coconut oil will depend on how juicy your dried apricots are. I buy organic dried apricots and they are really moist so I don’t need to add too much oil to the recipe.
  2. Form into balls and store in a container in the fridge
