The Dessert Freedom Recipe Guide

This past month I was thrilled to find an amazing cookbook online. The woman who wrote it is also amazing in her own right. She like me has food allergies and instead of moaning about it, she got into her kitchen and came up with delicious recipes. She has a great website called Healthful Pursuit and truly has a talent when it comes to cooking and baking.

Her name is Leanne Vogel and her cookbook is called The Dessert Freedom Recipe Guide. This cookbook contains 40 recipes that are free of eggs, gluten, grains, refined sugar, dairy, corn, soy and peanuts. Throughout her cookbook she has little circles of gems which she calls ‘Techniques’. Here are a few of her insightful thoughts that will help you to embrace your allergies, conquer cravings and liberate your dessert dilemma.

“Life should be about happiness and variety – not restrictions and deprivation. When you open yourself up to the wonderful opportunities this world has to offer, you can fill your life with joy, strength, confidence and celebration – and that’s what Food Freedom is all about!”

“Earth shattering epiphany… The numbers don’t matter.

When you’re hungry, eat. When you’re not, don’t.”

“Kick your sugar cravings by starting the day with a savoury breakfast instead of a sweet breakfast. You’ll be amazed at the difference.”

The first recipe I made was Carrot Balls. They are perfect little nuggets when you have a hunger on. Full of carrots, walnuts, raisins, flaxseed and other healthy ingredients, they are a definite check mark on my list.

The next recipe I decided to make was her Almond Ice Cream Squares. These vegan ice cream squares are made up of layers and swirls of maple syrup, banana, almond butter and jam, smothered on grain-free, vegan shortbread.

Don’t these just sound delicious? Well they are. No doubt about it, another winner.

I think my next try will be the No-Bake Key Lime Tart or the Cardamom Crunch Cookies.
