Lovin my Mexican Avocados


I love to blog and really I will blog about anything to do with food or health.

Last week I was lucky enough to be asked to try some recipes with Mexican Avocados. WOO HOO for me!!! I love avocados, like really love them. I probably eat at least 2 avocados a day, maybe more.

Did you know that the world’s first avocado was grown and cultivated more than 9,000 years ago in the area that is now known as Mexico.

They are full of healthy fats, and help keep the body alkaline which helps us to keep disease at bay. Avocados contain nearly 20 vitamins and minerals and more potassium than a banana. It is best to buy avocados that are green and firm. You know they are ready to eat when the skin changes from green to almost black and is slightly soft to the touch.

Mexican avocados are smooth and creamy and sometimes I just eat them out of the skin with a spoon.

My favourite way to eat avocados is mashed with a little lemon juice, olive oil and sea salt spread on one of my homemade flax crackers.

I was happy to visit the miss avocado website to try some of their recipes with avocado.

The first recipe I chose was their Raw and Vegan Strawberry Coconut ‘Cheese Cake’ Dessert. Yes I am a dessert girl!

It of course contains avocados along with nuts, dates, strawberries and a few other ingredients.

I pulled out my food processor last night and made this recipe. It is really good. It was easy to make and everyone liked it in this household.  I have to admit I did use a little less coconut oil than was called for as I thought it would take away from the strawberry flavour. I do love coconut, but I wanted to taste the lovely organic strawberries we had just bought at Costco.

  1. what a unique pairing of flavours! i wouldn’t have thought to used avocado in dessert…much less a cheesecake. and, it looks so good.

    i have to work on my own avocado recipe soon! #luvmexavocado
