7 Health Benefits of Cacao Tea

Did you say cacao tea? You bet I did!

Cacao tea was first discovered by the ancient Mayan and Aztec people and has been around for thousands of years.

Cacao tea has incredible mood-boosting properties, is high in antioxidants, sugar free, caffeine free, dairy free and GMO free.

Yes, cacao tea is caffeine free! This is amazing as I often get the jitters when I drink regular tea or eat dark chocolate.

Cacao Tea Company makes their tea from loose-leaf cacao husks. Their cacao tea is ethically- sourced and sustainably grown on chocolate plantations in South America and is 100% organic. The husks are harvested and roasted using traditional methods similar to those used thousands of years ago.

This tea is so delicious and provides all the benefits of dark chocolate. For someone like me who loves cacao but find it keeps me awake if I eat it late in the day, this is an excellent and delicious option.

Check out the differences between caffeine and theobromine.

Both caffeine and theobromine act as diuretics and stimulants. Caffeine’s tends to affect the central nervous system where theobromine mostly targets the muscles and the heart. Caffeine is a psycho-stimulant with fast-acting influences on the brain which can cause alertness and increased motor activity. It also over time can cause a sort of addiction or dependence. It also can cause withdrawal symptoms like headaches, irritability and nausea.

Even though theobromine and caffeine have similar effects on the body, the effectiveness of theobromine is about 10 times weaker than caffeine. Where caffeine constricts blood vessels and can cause dramatic spikes in blood pressure, theobromine dilates blood vessels, leading to lower levels of blood pressure, improved blood flow and better circulation.

Cacao is packed with health benefits. Here’s why this is my new favourite tea:

  1. Rich in antioxidants which help to fight free radical damage in the body.
  2. High in flavonoids in particular theobromine which provides a gentle energy boost while relaxing the body, decreasing blood pressure, improving brain function, supporting healthy digestion, circulation and respiration.
  3. Excellent source of vitamins and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, calcium, copper and zinc
  4. Has a delicious chocolate, toffee flavour
  5. Contains no caffeine
  6. Contains mood enhancing properties
  7. Cacao karma- Cacao Tea company donates 15% of their profits to help provide health meals to malnourished families in impoverished communities in developing countries.
