A Wonderful New Integrative Cancer Clinic

I was so lucky the other day to get a tour of one of the first integrative Cancer Clinics. The OICC is actually the first of its kind in Central and Eastern Canada.

Located in Ottawa, Ontario, the Ottawa Integrative Cancer Clinic (OICC) combines top cancer research and cancer care.

Working alongside conventional cancer treatments the centre offers acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, yoga, nutrition classes, massage therapy, meditation, counselling and IV therapies just to mention a few.

“The OICC is committed to working with patients, their families, and their health-care providers (including oncologists and surgeons); to provide complementary therapeutic programs that do not interfere with standard treatments, but instead, help to optimize the overall treatment process providing greater likelihood for clinical benefit through a truly integrative approach.”

“Their mission is to provide evidence informed integrative and preventative cancer care, research and education across the spectrum of prevention to survivorship. The Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre (OICC) will be a flagship model interdisciplinary centre that provides whole-person integrative care to people with cancer, cancer survivors, and those seeking cancer prevention.”

From the moment I walked in the door I felt calm, at peace, and felt such a wonderful aura in the centre. I noticed right away that the centre was done with every thought in mind to make it a healthy environment .From the healthy bamboo floors, the use of healthy paints, to the healthy kitchen where nutrition courses are taught by their wonderful nutritionist to cancer patients and their families. Bright windows adorned the upstairs rooms where they offer acupuncture, their meditation room and welcoming foyer.

Approximately 2 in 5 Canadians will develop cancer in their lifetime. One in 4 Canadians will die of cancer and so it is timely to have a centre like this open its doors in Canada’s capitol.

I appreciate how the OICC is working and educating the conventional doctors so they may learn what natural treatments can help with the fight and treatment of cancer.

A healthy diet and a healthy mind, equals a healthy body.

Here is one of the many testimonials from patients who have been helped by the OICC.

“The Integral healing program provided information regarding a variety of complimentary cancer therapies as well as a guide on nutritional meals that helps in prevention of recurrences. We enjoyed taste testing some amazing lunches put together by Kylie, the nutritionist. She was extremely informative and provided us with some simple yet tasty lunch and snack ideas. It also was an amazing opportunity for cancer patients to exchange their stories and leave with some sense of sharing and understanding”.
